Netflix and Chill

IG

As much I am always talking about not giving up and working tired, there’s strength and restoration in

taking a break.

Guess what!!!!!! I finally did a Netflix and chill and binge watched “Family Reunion” and I must say it was

the best thing ever! Those who know me personally will tell you I have not watched much tv ever. My

20’s were spent working full time, hustling back and forth working on my undergrad while raising my

daughter. And then my 30’s were spend trying to relocate and start a new life.

Nowadays I try not to stay glued to the television, but “burn out” is real and even though the hard work

has paid off and I’m still climbing the ladder and still dreaming per say, there’s nothing wrong with

taking time off.

Check out my agenda below for my “sort of” forced Netflix & Chill day.

7:00 am

I wake up with a pain on my chest and assume it’s just a little heartburn, so I head to start my normal

daily routine consisting of the usual…washing my face, brushing my teeth, grooming my hair, and getting

dress. I grab my matte pink Starbucks cup from my dresser and swallow down a pill for indigestion. In

my mind I must keep going not to waste any hours in the day and log on for work.

10:00 am

Three hours later and the pain just would not go away. I begin to get really concerned and call my

doctor to schedule an appointment asap. I am really concerned because my focus was more on the pain

versus my work for the day, therefore, I decide to log off and put on an “Out of Office” reply to work

emails. At this point I realized I really do need to rest until my doctor’s appointment.

12:00 pm

My daughter hands me the remote and asks, “Mom, what do you want to watch”? I replied, “Nothing”.

The main reason for my firm reply was I honestly could not think of the names to any tv shows or

movies. I know. I know. Like I said, I really do not watch much tv at all. So, because I really admire the

twins, Tia and Tamera Mowry, she turned to “Family Reunion” and I hesitantly watch the first episode

and midway I was hooked. I watched all episodes for the remainder of the day and then I finally fell

asleep.

This blog post is purposely written with a mini timeline to emphasize the importance of rest and

recovery especially when you are trying to juggle multiple tasks at once. We are all human and burn out

is real. There is no fun in putting in all the hard work if you cannot enjoy it. Take time for yourself

without feeling guilty! Who else is guilty of being a workaholic? Make a list of at least five things you

like to do when relaxing. Please share some of those below. I would love to add more ideas to my list.
